List of royal weddings
A royal wedding is a marriage ceremony involving members of a royal family. Weddings involving senior members of the royal family are often seen as important occasions of state and attract significant national and international attention.
United Kingdom
Westminster Abbey has a long tradition as a venue for royal weddings,[2] although there was a hiatus of these from 1382 until 1919, and only two of these weddings were of the reigning monarch of the time (Henry I and Richard II).
- 11 November 1100: Henry I was married to Matilda of Scotland
- 9 April 1269: Prince Edmund (Earl of Lancaster), son of Henry III was married to Aveline de Forz
- 30 April 1290: Joan of Acre, daughter of Edward I was married to Gilbert de Clare, 7th Earl of Gloucester
- 8 July 1290: Margaret of England, daughter of Edward I was married to John II
- 20 January 1382: Richard II was married to Anne of Bohemia
- 27 February 1919: HRH Princess Patricia of Connaught, granddaughter of Queen Victoria, was married to Capt The Hon Alexander Ramsay DSO
- 28 February 1922: HRH The Princess Mary, only daughter of King George V, was married to Viscount Lascelles
- 26 April 1923: HRH The Prince Albert, Duke of York, second son of King George V and successor to King Edward VIII, was married to The Lady Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon.
- 29 November 1934: HRH The Prince George, son of King George V, was married to HRH Princess Marina of Greece and Denmark
- 20 November 1947: HRH The Princess Elizabeth, eldest daughter and successor of King George VI, was married to Lieutenant Philip Mountbatten.
- 6 May 1960: HRH The Princess Margaret, second daughter of King George VI, was married to Antony Charles Robert Armstrong-Jones, Esq.
- 24 April 1963: HRH Princess Alexandra of Kent was married to The Hon. Angus Ogilvy.
- 14 November 1973: HRH The Princess Anne, only daughter of Queen Elizabeth II was married to Captain Mark Anthony Peter Phillips.[3]
- 23 July 1986: HRH The Prince Andrew, second son of Queen Elizabeth II, was married to Miss Sarah Ferguson.[4]
- 29 April 2011: HRH Prince William of Wales, second grandson of Queen Elizabeth II, eldest son of HRH The Prince Charles, Prince of Wales and second in line to the throne, was married to Miss Catherine Elizabeth Middleton[5]
In addition to the above, the union of HRH The Prince Charles, Prince of Wales and HRH The Duchess of Cornwall in 2005 received a blessing from The Archbishop of Canterbury.
